Why wool blankets?
-
Moisture and temperature management properties. Wool is a breathable fibre that provides instant warmth unlike synthetic materials. It regulates itself to individual body temperature and really is warm in winter whilst cool in summer.
-
Wool is flame-resistant. Wools’ natural moisture content makes it non- combustible. A wool blanket will not melt or ignite into flames; an excellent safety precaution when sleeping or lounging around the campfire. The status of wool as a natural fire retardant means that it does not require to be treated with synthetic retardants.
-
Naturally antibacterial and odor resistant. As wool does not collect moisture, so it hardly ever attracts mold or bacteria. Since dust needs moisture to survive, so it tends to repel it as well. This important feature is best for people who have asthma, allergies or other breathing problems because will not react.
-
Sustainability. Wool is hard to challenge for its sustainability (sheep are not intensively reared). It grows naturally and is renewable i.e it quickly grows back.
-
Resistant to static. Merino clothing will never contain static electricity.
-
Durability with long lasting appearance. Laboratory tests have shown that wool fibers resist tearing and can bend back on themselves more than 20,000 times without breaking. Cotton breaks after 3,200 bends, silk fibers break after 1,800 bends, and rayon fibers break after just 75 bends.
